Chief Justice of the Supreme Court NV Ramana (CJI) on Saturday said that improving the judicial infrastructure is important. It is also essential for improving access to justice. But sadly, there is an ad hoc attitude in the country regarding this. Improving in an unplanned way. It has become a mentality that courts run in dilapidated buildings. This makes it difficult to work.

The CJI raised questions on the infrastructure of the courts at the inauguration of the annex of the Aurangabad Bench of the Bombay High Court. The National Judicial Infrastructure Authority should be set up to improve the infrastructure, he said. Its proposal has been sent to the Law Ministry. I urge the Law Minister to expedite the resolution by raising this issue in the upcoming session of Parliament. Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju was present in the program.

No toilets for women in 26% of courts

The CJI said that 26% of the courts in the country do not have toilets for women and 16% of the courts for men. There is no provision of pure drinking water in 46% of the court complexes in the country. Only 5% of court complexes have medical facilities. About 50% of the court complexes do not have a library. The sanctioned posts of judicial officers are 24,280 while the halls available to them are 20,143.
