‘Disappointed to meet PM’: Gupkar alliance pushes for statehood to J&K ahead of assembly polls

The alliance also accused the Center of failing to take any confidence building measures like releasing political prisoners and “taking concrete steps to end the atmosphere of repression in J&K since 2019”.

In a statement, spokesperson MY Tarigami said the BJP committed on the floor of Parliament with regard to the grant of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and they should respect it. “Any assembly election should be held only after restoration of full statehood for J&K. For this, PAGD has decided to reach out to other political parties in J&K to take a common position on the issue,” he said.

The PAGD’s stand on restoring statehood comes ahead of a visit by the Delimitation Commission, whose main task is to redraw the boundaries of various assembly and Lok Sabha constituencies, starting July 7.
