Director S Vaitla opens up about rumors surrounding Mahesh Babu’s Dookudu sequel

Telugu blockbuster ‘Dukudu’ completed its 10th anniversary on 23 September. Starring Mahesh Babu and Samantha was released on 23 September 2011. The action comedy, directed by Srinu Vaitla, was a turning point in actor Mahesh Babu’s career. To mark the occasion, over 20 special shows of classic hits were screened in several theaters across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

There were some rumors about a possible sequel to Dookudu. It was reported that Srinu Vaitla wanted to give a script to Mahesh Babu for part-2 of the film. But the director has clarified that the script is not of the sequel.

“It’s not a Dookudu sequel. But I want to make a film with superstar Mahesh Babu. I think I have a script that suits him perfectly. I will tell him and hope he says okay, She was quoted as saying by Mirchi 9.

Srinu Vaitla revealed that his next directorial venture is D&D, while clarifying that it is not a sequel to his 2007 action comedy Dhee. But according to him, the film will have a “flavor of ghee”. “Some characters of Dhee will also be seen. Shooting will start in November and I am planning to finish it by January-February. I have full faith in the film.”

Dookudu remains Srinu Vaitla’s biggest hit till date. The film grossed Rs 101 crore globally and became the highest-grossing Telugu film of 2011. The film also earned over Rs 57 crore for the distributors.

While Mahesh Babu went on to star in even bigger hits after Dookudu, Srinu Vaitla could not make much use of the film’s success. His last outing was Ravi Teja and Ileana D’Cruz in Amar Akbar Anthony and was released in 2018. Despite the high expectations, the film bombed at the box office and could collect only Rs 18 crore.

The director insisted that he has rectified his mistakes and said that he will now do films as per the ongoing trend. He also has three scripts ready.
