Direct flights connecting Delhi and Kushinagar will start from November 26: Scindia

New Delhi: Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia while addressing the inauguration ceremony of Kushinagar International Airport on Wednesday said that flights connecting Delhi and Kushinagar will start soon. Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Kushinagar International Airport at the Parinirvana site of Lord Buddha in Uttar Pradesh.

During his address, PM Modi said that SpiceJet flights from Delhi to Kushinagar will start soon.

Union Minister Scindia further announced that the direct flight connecting Delhi and Kushinagar will start from November 26, 2021 and will run four days a week. The initial flights will be operated by SpiceJet Airlines. He further promised that direct flights connecting Kolkata and Mumbai to Kushinagar International Airport would also start soon.

Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the Kushinagar International Airport with the first flight from Sri Lanka along with Sri Lankan Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa along with a delegation of around 100 Buddhist monks, four state ministers and various other officials on the occasion of Wap Poya Day.

PM Modi expressed happiness at the launch and said, “Kushinagar International Airport is the result of decades of hopes and expectations. My happiness is two fold today. Being curious about the spiritual journey, I feel a sense of satisfaction. A representative As in the Purvanchal region, it is a time of fulfillment of commitment.”

Kushinagar airport is built at an estimated cost of 260 crores; It will serve the adjoining districts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar and is seen as an important step to boost investment and employment opportunities in the region. According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the airport will facilitate domestic and international pilgrims to visit the ‘Mahaparinirvana’ site of Lord Buddha and is an effort to connect Buddhist pilgrimage sites across the world.
