Ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections, former India cricketer Dinesh Mongia and sitting Congress MLA Fateh Singh Bajwa on Tuesday joined the BJP in the presence of Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. Bajwa, the MLA from Kadian, is the brother of senior Congress leader Pratap Singh Bajwa.
Besides Bajwa, sitting Congress MLA from Punjab Balwinder Singh Laddi also joined the BJP on Tuesday. They joined a day after former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and former Union minister Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa met top BJP leaders, following which a formal alliance between the BJP and the two leaders’ parties was announced.
Welcoming the leaders to his party, Shekhawat said that leaders of other parties are joining the BJP as it is getting stronger in Punjab. For the past several days, the BJP has been engaging leaders and eminent personalities from Punjab to cement its position in the state, where it has always been a junior ally in the alliance.
