Ranchi: More than a month after unlock Restaurant And bars in the state, many in these areas are becoming increasingly common, but the concept of eating out in the city has changed.
The trend of takeaways – either in person or through food aggregators – has become the preferred method rather than dine-ins, owners Most eateries said.
Kunwar Bhatia, owner of the popular Kaveri restaurant, which has several chains, said that compared to last year, they have recovered around 80% business since they were unlocked at the end of June.
“But more than dine-in, there has been a huge jump in takeaways since our reopening. There has been an increase of more than 50 per cent in packaged food items as compared to last year. The good thing for us is that our business has now managed to recover by 70% – 80%,” he said.
Similarly, Ranjan Kumar, owner of another popular multi-cuisine restaurant in Kanke said, “Takeaway is the new trend in the post-lockdown period. For example, 40%-50% of the 100 sales we make are currently takeaways. Overall business wise it is almost normal now.
Even though there has been a significant reduction in Covid-19 cases in the state, including in Ranchi, restaurant owners said they are not taking any chances to ensure proper handling of COVID-19 at their joints. “The seating arrangement in the crowd is no longer a focus as everyone has realized that safety is important for the sustainability of the business. Therefore, customers will always get enough distance between tables in our restaurant. We also regularly sanitize the seating area and kitchen to maintain a high level of cleanliness,” Bhatia said.
The manager of Kanha restaurant in Morabadi said that unlike the first wave, people have also become extremely cautious, which makes their job easier to maintain the proper COVID treatment at their place. “Earlier, people had to repeatedly ask to put on masks and sanitize their hands before entering, which at times angered the customers. It is not so now,” he said.
