Diamond City In Grip Of Swine Flu, Cases Touch 100 | Surat News – Times of India

Surat: While the number of Covid-19 cases have come down in the city, the swine flu (H1N1) case tally touched 100 on Tuesday. However, the city health officials said that the transmission rate of H1N1 had slowed down compared to the situation a fortnight ago.
“It was believed that by August 15 the swine flu cases will cross the 100-mark. But it took time to reach this number. This indicates that the transmission rate has reduced,” said a health officer of the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC).
Health officials, however, are predicting rise in the transmission rate during the Ganesh festival and Navratri. “H1N1 infection is a concern among children below five years, senior citizens and pregnant women. It is a worry for those with comorbidities too,” the officer added.
Currently, three swine flu patients are under treatment in hospital while six deaths have been reported over the past few weeks due to the H1N1 infection.
On Tuesday, 10 new cases of Covid-19 were taking the tally of active cases to 84. Five Covid-19 patients have been hospitalized.
SMC has stated vaccination at the Ganesh pandals in the city.
