The Uttarakhand Police on Saturday picked up Yeti Narasimhanand from his dharna site in Haridwar in connection with the Dharma Sansad case, where hate speeches were allegedly made against Muslims. Haridwar Superintendent of Police (City) Swatantra Kumar told PTI that Yeti Narasimhanand has been brought to the police station.

However, the official said, it was not technically an arrest. Narasimhanand, the controversial priest of Dasna temple in Ghaziabad, had organized the program in Haridwar from December 17-19.

He was picked up from where he was sitting on a dharna in protest against the recent arrest of another accused in the case, Jitendra Narayan Tyagi. Tyagi was earlier known as Wasim Rizvi and changed his name after converting to Hinduism.

Tyagi, who headed the Uttar Pradesh Shia Waqf Board before converting to Hinduism, was the first to be arrested in the case a few days back. The official said further action would depend on how the investigation progresses.

Both Tyagi and Narasimhanand are among the accused named in the FIR registered in connection with the incident.
