The Jharkhand High Court on Wednesday ordered a SIT probe into Anand’s death, headed by Additional Director General of Police Sanjay Latkar, after taking cognizance of a letter filed before the court by the Principal District Judge of Dhanbad in the matter.

The Chief Justice of the High Court, Ravi Ranjan, converted it into a writ petition and ordered the formation of an SIT. He said that the CJI had spoken to him in the matter and expressed confidence that a fair investigation would be conducted in the matter.

The high court said it will monitor the investigation and seek updates from the SIT from time to time.

The High Court had said that if at any point of time the court felt that the investigation was not going in the right direction, the matter would be handed over to the CBI.
