DGCA fined Vistara Rs 10 lakh

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) recently imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on Vistara for allowing an improperly trained pilot to land an aircraft at the Indore airport. There were passengers on the flight.

According to the DGCA, the pilot, who was the first officer in flight, took off without receiving the necessary training in a simulator.

“This was a serious violation, threatening the lives of the passengers on board,” the regulator said.

As per the rule, the first officer must first be trained to land an aircraft in a simulator before he can land an aircraft with passengers. A captain is also trained in a simulator before he can allow the first officer to land.

The captain as well as the first officer of the Indore flight did not train in the simulator, but the first officer was still allowed to land at the airport. The DGCA said that Vistara allowed the landing without giving the requisite training to the first officer.

The lapse was detected during landing at Indore.
