story behind temple

The Nag temple in Mussoorie is said to be about 500 years old. It is said that a cow from Bhatte village would often come to this place in the morning (where the Nag Devta temple is situated) and offer milk to a stone with its udder. The villagers were shocked to learn about this incident. When the villagers removed the stone, they found many snake idols. He also saw that the serpent gods are seated on top of the idols.

Since then this place came to be known as Siddha Peeth. A huge and grand temple was built there. On Nag Panchami, many people from Mussoorie, nearby towns and villages visit the Naga deity and pray for their wishes to be fulfilled.
