Dengue, Chikungunya, Malaria Med Notified Diseases Under Epidemic Diseases Act

According to an official notification, vector-borne diseases like dengue, chikungunya and malaria have been notified under the Epidemic Diseases Act. The notification makes it mandatory for all hospitals to provide information to the government about any such matter that they receive.

Based on the data provided by the hospitals, the areas where vector-borne diseases are spreading will be identified and declared as ‘infected’ or ‘threatened’.

The notification also said that legal action would be taken against persons or institutions for not adhering to adequate measures or not reporting matters to the authorities.

The national capital has seen a spurt in dengue cases. According to a civic report released on Monday, Delhi has recorded over 1,000 dengue cases this year, with over 280 cases registered last week.

Of the total dengue cases this season, 665 cases were reported in the first 23 days of this month alone. The city recorded its first death due to the vector-borne disease this season on October 18.
