Delusionship To Fake-Ups: Familiarise Yourself With Latest GenZ Dating Trends, Terms

“Much has been said and done about global dating patterns, but this time, we wanted to shed some light on emerging desi online dating trends and specifically observe the behavior of GenZ Indian daters. We observed that around 44 per cent of participants were part of more than one trend, with Delusionship and Evil Dead rising to the fore,” says Ravi Mittal, Founder & CEO, QuackQuack.

India’s domestic dating app ran a survey among its GenZ users to know the latest about the virtual dating world. 15,000 men and women between the ages of 18 and 26 participated in the survey.

The participating individuals came from Tier 1 cities – Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, and more and Tier 2 cities – Surat, Lucknow, Jaipur, Bhopal, Patna, Indore, Kochi, Kanpur, and Guwahati. The survey participants are self-employed, working professionals and students.

Confusion

39 percent of the survey participants revealed being “delusional” at least once in their dating lives. Explaining this trend, he said that “delusion” is a state of mind in which one imagines the entire relationship, from proposing to marriage and children, without taking a single step on their crush. It’s all in their head, and 29 percent of those who have disclosed their delusions are introverts.

Extroverts are also a part of this trend, and they think it is more common than most people would like to admit. Users from both Tier 1 and 2 cities alike have experienced this intense “obsession and daydreaming”, as they put it. It builds slowly and steadily, but thankfully doesn’t last long. If this happens then it does not come under the category of delusion.

Exiles trying to re-enter with new and advanced fake promises are nothing new, but GenZ daters certainly have given it a fresh and fancy term—”Evil Dead Rise”. 37 percent of dating app users between the ages of 18 and 22 have admitted to being victims of the Evil Dead rise, and the term fits the trauma that comes from repeating the past.

Seven percent of daters from Tier 1 and 2 cities admitted they’ve had the Evil Dead rise in someone’s life, and justified that their intentions weren’t as bad as people are telling. For every trend, perspective matters.

Chamaeleon

Highlighting new trends, the survey shows that “chameleon” is leading the way – the trend is one where those dating keep changing their personality, likes and dislikes to match theirs. The app has also seen some users making changes to their profile bios and preferences.

23 percent of women between the ages of 23 and 26 revealed that, time and again, they have made changes to their personality to become more attractive, and they think nearly everyone does, some more subtle than others. There are

31 percent of men between the ages of 21 and 25 have done the same to impress their date. 36 percent of men and women were of the opinion that chameleon falls are common, and almost everyone makes some minor changes, but no major changes are sustainable; Sooner or later, people’s true colors start to show, and it can be more damaging.

Among other interesting trends, the survey suggests that “fake-ups” are making headlines these days. Fake-up is the trend where GenZ daters, especially single men, fake breakups to garner sympathy from female daters and initiate conversations with them with the ultimate goal of dating.

18 percent of male daters from metros and small towns revealed using fake stories to talk to their crushes.

Compared to men, the number of women participating in this trend is far lower, and 23 percent of women above the age of 21 believe it’s a pity for men to enter their DMs using fake-ups. Makes it easy
