In fact, even more so when the umpire declared him not out because he was too late to remove the bails. Overall, it polarized the cricketing world once again with some of them criticizing Zampa on social media. Meanwhile, some Indian cricketers pointedly mentioned how this dismissal cannot possibly be called Mankad as it smacks of racism.

And it all started when Australia’s Adam Zampa was left red-faced after an effort by the ‘Mankad’ Melbourne Renegades batsman. The incident happened in the final over of the Renegade’s innings in the Melbourne derby of the Big Bash League at the iconic MCG. Zampa, who was about to bowl, saw the batsman leave the crease and removed the bails in one fell swoop, much to the derision of the Melbourne crowd.

However, the third umpire quickly overturned the decision as Zampa’s arm “went beyond vertical” – too far into his bowling action. However, there were mixed reactions to this in the commentary box.
