The term Mankad was named after India’s legendary cricketer Vinoo Mankad.
The term Mankad was first invented by Australian cricket fans when, on the 1948 tour of Australia, Vinoo Mankad, the iconic India cricketer, ran out Bill Brown at the SCG.
A Big Bash League match between the Melbourne Stars and the Melbourne Renegades recently sparked several controversies. “I would love to see “Mankad” or “Mankading” live on and keep his memory and legacy as a great competitor and sportsman alive, by everyone I’ve met and who knew him and experienced life with him. There has been a lot of respect and appreciation,” he added.
To show their respect to the Mankad family, Australian Cricketers’ Association chief administrators Todd Greenberg and Kay Lee Jarman Cricket NSW has attempted to launch a campaign this week to separate deed from name.
