Delhi’s temperature rises to 42.4 degree Celsius, highest in 72 years in first fortnight of April

New Delhi: A severe heat wave intensified in the national capital and adjoining areas on Saturday (April 9, 2022), with the maximum temperature rising to 42.4 degrees Celsius in Delhi.

Delhi on Saturday recorded the highest maximum temperature in April since 1950. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that this is the first time in 72 years that Delhi has recorded such a high temperature in the first half of April.

The maximum temperature on Saturday was also eight degrees above the normal at this time of the year.

Along with this, the Meteorological Department has issued an alert Orange alert for Sunday in the national capital And predicted that severe heat wave conditions are expected to continue over the region.

IMD uses four color codes for weather warnings – green (no action needed), yellow (watch and stay updated), orange (be prepared) and red (take action).

The Meteorological Department also told that Heat wave likely to intensify, IMD officials said hot weather conditions in northwest India have turned “severe” due to the prolonged drought.

The IMD said that the maximum temperature at the Safdarjung observatory may touch the 42-degree mark on Saturday. It also said that cloudy sky may bring some respite from the scorching heat from Tuesday.

IMD said that Northwest India and adjoining parts of Central India are predicted to witness more intense and persistent heatwave conditions in April.
