According to the revised penalty of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), in case of noise violation by loudspeaker or public address system in any public place without permission or during night, a fine of Rs 10,000 will be payable, and the equipment will also be confiscated.

The DPCC order said Rs 1 lakh for Diesel Generator (DG) sets above 1,000 KVA, Rs 25,000 for DG sets between 62.5 KVA to 1,000 KVA and Rs 10,000 for DG sets up to 62.5 KVA. penalty has been imposed.

In residential areas, 55 decibels are allowed during the day and 45 decibels at night. Similarly, in commercial areas, the permissible noise limit is 65 dB during the day and 55 dB during the night. It is 50 decibels during the day and 40 decibels at night in sensitive areas.

In addition, there are ‘silent zones’ which include areas that fall within 100 meters of the premises of schools, colleges, hospitals and courts.

According to the order, in case of bursting of firecrackers in the premises of any RWA or in marriage ceremony in excess of the prescribed limit, for the first violation, the organizer and the owner of the premises will have to pay Rs 20,000.

“For the second violation, the organizer and the owner will have to pay Rs 40,000. For more than two violations within a certain premises or in a marriage ceremony, the organizer and the owner will have to pay a fine of Rs 1 lakh. The premises will also be sealed. will be given,” the DPCC order said.

If bursting of crackers in a marriage ceremony or public and religious rally beyond a limit causes noise pollution, the organizers will have to pay a fine of Rs 10,000 and if it is in a silent zone then the fine will be doubled.

If an individual family bursts crackers in a residential or commercial area, the fine will be Rs 1,000. However, for violation in the silence zone, it will be Rs 3,000.

The order states that if construction equipment emits noise in excess of the permissible limit, a fine of Rs 50,000 will be imposed.

DPCC officials said the penalty was revised by the CPCB in 2020 with recommendations that people will have to spend more money to go beyond the limits of noise pollution.

DPCC has issued instructions to all DMs, SDMs, Delhi Police and Traffic Police to strictly follow these rules.
