Delhi: Weekend curfew, odd-even to continue for shops; LG allows 50% employees in private offices

New Delhi: Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Friday turned down the Delhi government’s proposal to lift the weekend curfew as well as the odd-even system for opening of shops.

Earlier in the day, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia held a press conference where he informed that the Delhi government has decided to lift the curfew over the weekend, do away with the odd-even system for opening shops and allow private offices to run with 50 per cent staff. has been proposed. He said the proposal approved by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was sent for the concurrence of Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal, news agency PTI reported.

The Deputy Chief Minister said that the decision to ease restrictions was taken in view of the declining number of COVID cases in the city and its impact on livelihood and business activities.

Traders in many parts of the national capital have been demanding that the restrictions, including opening of shops of non-essential items on alternate days on the basis of the odd-even system, be lifted.

The weekend curfew imposed due to increase in COVID cases will come into effect from 10 pm on Friday and will continue till 5 am on Monday.

Delhi had recorded 12,306 fresh COVID-19 cases and 43 more deaths due to the infection on Thursday. According to the data shared by Delhi’s health department, the positivity rate came down to 21.48 per cent.
