Over 1 crore vaccine doses given in Delhi, 50% of eligible population got at least 1 jab: Kejriwal
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday announced that the total number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the national capital has so far crossed the one crore mark and at least 50 per cent of the eligible population in the city has been covered. The Chief Minister said that the population of Delhi is around two crore and about 1.5 crore of them are eligible for COVID-19 vaccination.
The chief minister said in a statement, “Out of 1.5 crore eligible population, 74 lakh have received the vaccine dose. Therefore, about 50 per cent have received at least one dose. 26 lakh out of 74 lakh have been given both doses.” ” online briefing.
“The number of COVID vaccine doses administered in Delhi since the start of the vaccination campaign has crossed the one crore mark today.”
Congratulating the medical staff for dispensing more than one crore doses in the national capital, Kejriwal said there is acute shortage of vaccines for which vaccination cannot be scaled up.
He said, “We have the capacity to vaccinate three lakh people daily. But due to shortage, only 50,000-80,000 people are being protected against Kovid every day.”
The Chief Minister said that the Delhi government was in regular touch with the Center and hoped that the city along with the rest of the country would soon have adequate doses of the vaccine.
Kejriwal said the government has two challenges: to vaccinate those who have not yet received the first dose and give the second dose to those who have received the first dose.
