New Delhi: Transport Minister of Delhi Kailash Gahlot On Monday, 100 low-floor air-conditioned CNG buses and a prototype electric bus were flagged off from the Indraprastha depot here.
He said that these buses are environment friendly and will help in reducing pollution in the city.
These buses, launched under the Delhi government’s cluster scheme, are also equipped with modern facilities like panic button, CCTV, real-time tracking. GPSand are handicapped friendly.
With their joining, the size of the public transport bus fleet has increased to 7,001.

Gehlot had then said that the government was trying to bring 300 electric buses by April.
In a statement issued later in the evening, Gehlot said, “I dedicate all these new buses to the citizens of Delhi and urge them to reduce the use of private vehicles and shift to public transport for a pollution-free city.” ” ,
The Minister said that the bus fleet of Delhi crossed the 7,000 mark for the first time which is a remarkable achievement.
According to the statement, with the addition of these 100 low-floor AC CNG buses and one electric bus, the total number of buses in Delhi has increased to 7,001.
Delhi had crossed the 6,000-bus mark during the 2010 Commonwealth Games, the statement said.
Gehlot said that in February 2022 more than 30 lakh people traveled in DTC and cluster buses every day, which is about 14 per cent of Delhi’s population.
“Our buses have become an example of safe, convenient and economical transportation. We will continue to add to this number with over 2,000 electric buses joining our fleet in the coming year,” he added.
The government said – these buses will run from here Ghumanhera Depot To various transit centers of Delhi including New Delhi Railway Station, Anand Vihar ISBT and Nizamuddin Railway Station.
According to the statement, Delhi Transport Corporation The board had last month approved procurement of 1,500 e-buses through the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing Scheme of hybrid and electric vehicles.
The Delhi government also plans to induct 1000 e-buses in the DTC fleet and 240 e-buses in the cluster fleet.
The Transport Department is also in the process of upgrading its depots to accommodate these new buses.
