Delhi Riots: Murder charges framed against 7 in the murder of Samaypur Badli resident

A Delhi court has framed charges against seven people on the basis of a Delhi Police’s charge sheet in a murder that took place during the Northeast Delhi riots.

The deceased has been identified as Monis, a resident of Samaypur Badli. On February 25 last year, he was on his way to his uncle’s house in riot-hit Mustafabad in front of his parents’ house in Samaypur Badli when he was beaten up and then shot dead by rioters in northeast Delhi’s Chand Bagh area.

The alleged killers of Monis have been identified as Aman Kashyap, Arun alias Munna, Pradeep Rai, Ashish alias Goli, Devendra, Krishnakant and Rahul Bharadwaj, local residents of Brijpuri. All of them were arrested a few days after the incident. Delhi Police had also submitted its chargesheet in the murder case and booked all the seven under sections including murder, rioting, unlawful assembly.

On July 30, a court, taking cognizance of the chargesheet, framed charges against seven people arrested in connection with the murder of Monis, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Rajesh Deo said.

“The last mobile location of Monis during the investigation was Brijpuri. The last caller was his cousin Ibrahim, who when contacted said that during the conversation, Monis said that he had reached Yamuna Vihar bus stand and was coming home from Brijpuri road. The rioting mob caught hold of Monis and beat him up. Various persons residing around the main Brijpuri road were investigated to ascertain the exact location of the incident and to reconstruct the chain of incident to trace any eyewitnesses,” said Dev.

The DCP said, while interrogating the witnesses, a person told that on February 25, he saw a man in a red T-shirt being attacked by a mob. He had fainted due to the beating and was saved by the police personnel.

“The records of Dayalpur Police Station were checked and the staff posted at Brijpuri Tea Point on the unfortunate day and time of the incident were confronted with the video footage obtained from GTB Hospital where they were taken and found dead. was declared. All of them correctly identified the person in the video as the person they had rescued from the crowd. Police personnel also confirmed the statement of the eyewitnesses that local residents Aman Kashyap, Arun alias Munna, Pradeep Rai, Ashish alias Goli, Devendra, Krishnakant and Rahul Bharadwaj were involved in the murder. Thereafter, all of them were arrested,” he said.
