Delhi reports 461 new Covid-19 cases, 2 deaths, positivity rate crosses 5 per cent

According to data provided by the city’s health department, Delhi on Saturday registered a jump of nearly 26 per cent in the number of Covid-19 cases with a positivity rate of 5.33 per cent in the last 24 hours. The city saw 461 fresh cases and two deaths. It had recorded 366 Covid-19 cases and zero deaths on Friday, and the positivity rate stood at 3.95 per cent. The data showed that the city’s positivity rate has increased by 25.95 per cent in the last 24 hours. Despite the number of tests being less, the positivity rate jumped higher and exceeded 5 per cent on Saturday. The bulletin on Saturday said that a total of 8,646 Covid-19 tests were conducted on the previous day. Whereas Friday’s bulletin said the number of tests conducted a day earlier stood at 9,275.

According to the data available on the government’s Delhi Corona application, at least 13 of the 59 hospitalized patients are children, which is about 22 percent of the hospitalized patients. The number of cases here stood at 484 as on February 27, officials said. The city’s cumulative infections have risen to 18,68,033. According to the bulletin, the death toll is 26,160. The national capital has witnessed an increase in the daily Covid-19 cases and positivity rate in the last few days. According to the Health Department, the positivity rate increased four times in the last five days between April 10 and April 16.

The positivity rate on April 10 stood at 1.29 per cent with 141 cases, which rose to 5.33 per cent on Saturday with 461 fresh Covid-19 cases and two deaths. The positivity rate stood at 3.95 per cent on Friday with 366 fresh Covid-19 cases and zero deaths.

The number of cases reported on Thursday stood at 325 and the positivity rate stood at 2.39 per cent. A total of 772 Kovid-19 patients are under home isolation, the bulletin said. However, a day earlier this number was 685.

Hospitals in Delhi have 9,735 beds for Covid-19 patients and 59 (0.61 per cent) of them are occupied. The number of daily Covid-19 cases in Delhi touched a record high of 28,867 during the third wave of the pandemic on January 13 this year.

The city had recorded a positivity rate of 30.6 percent on January 14, the highest during the third wave of the pandemic, largely driven by the highly transmissible Omicron version of the coronavirus.
