Delhi reports 331 COVID cases, highest daily spike since June. Will the ‘Yellow’ alert be issued?

New Delhi: Delhi on Monday reported 331 new COVID-19 cases, the highest increase in a day since June 9.

Along with this, one death was also recorded in the national capital, taking the total number of people who died of coronavirus infection in Delhi to 25,106.

According to the data shared by the city’s health department, the positivity rate in Delhi has gone up to 0.68 per cent.

On Sunday, Delhi reported 290 cases with a positivity rate of 0.55 per cent and a fatality rate.

On Saturday and Friday, the number of daily cases stood at 249 and 180, respectively.

The increase with 331 new COVID cases is the highest since June 9 when 337 cases were reported with a positivity rate of 0.46 per cent, while 36 deaths were also recorded that day.

Meanwhile, the cumulative number of cases on Monday stood at 14,43,683. More than 14.17 lakh patients have recovered from the infection.

There has been a spurt in fresh coronavirus cases in the last few days as Delhi is also witnessing a surge in cases of the new Omron variant.

According to the data released earlier today by the Union Health Ministry, Delhi has reported the highest number of 142 cases, followed by Maharashtra at 141, Kerala 57, Gujarat 49, Rajasthan 43 and Telangana 41.

Is Delhi heading towards ‘yellow’ alert after night curfew?

Notably, a night curfew will be imposed in Delhi from 11 am tonight, restricting the movement of persons except in the exempted categories, due to the rising COVID-19 cases and the threat posed by it. omicron

The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) announced that there would be night curfew from 11 pm to 5 am till further orders.

Those exempted from the curfew include government officials, judges and judicial officers, medical personnel, pregnant women and patients, people walking to buy essential goods, media persons and people traveling to or returning from railway stations, bus stops and airports .

As per the DDMA order, only exempted category people will be allowed in metro trains and public transport buses during night curfew.

According to the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), a ‘yellow’ alert is issued if the positivity rate remains 0.5 per cent for two consecutive days.

On Sunday, Delhi recorded a positivity rate of 0.55 per cent which has now gone up to 0.68 per cent. Therefore, if daily infections continue to rise at the same rate, more restrictions may be imposed in the national capital.

Several restrictions, including night curfew, closure of schools and colleges, halving seating capacity in Metro trains and buses, closure of non-essential shops and malls, kick in with a ‘yellow’ alert, PTI reported.

In terms of COVID fatalities, Delhi reported seven deaths in November this year, while four such deaths were reported in October and five in September.
