Jain had said on Tuesday that the Omicron variant of the corona virus has not yet spread in the community and the situation is under control, but the cases are increasing. Jain said that LNJP had a dedicated 40-bed ward for Omicron patients which has now been increased to 100 in view of the increase in cases across the country.

He said that the condition of the Omicron positive patients is stable.

Delhi’s first patient of the Omicron version – a 37-year-old man from Ranchi – was discharged on Monday after testing negative for COVID-19 twice, officials said.

He had traveled from Tanzania to Doha and from there to Delhi on a Qatar Airways flight on December 2. He stayed in Johannesburg, South Africa for a week and had mild symptoms.

Under the new norms, RT-PCR tests are mandatory for passengers arriving from “at-risk” countries and allowed to leave the airport only after the results are out.

Along with this, two percent of the passengers coming by flight from other countries are being randomly tested.
