DDCA will be the latest addition to the list of state associations who have their own T20 leagues.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has given the approval to DDCA for organising the Delhi Premier League (DPL).

DDCA Joint Secretary Rajan Manchanda confirmed to News18 CricketNext that the BCCI approved the tournament last week and he expressed gratitude to the board for granting permission to organise the competition.

“We are thankful to the BCCI for granting us the permission to hold the DPL,” Manchanda said.

While there is no confirmation on the start date or the schedule for the competition so far, the DDCA is targeting to get it done before September 15 this year.

“Within a week, we are going to call the tenders to execute the DPL. We have a target of completing the tournament before 15th September,” Manchanda said.

Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium has been one of the busiest venues in the past one year having played host to multiple ODI World Cup games (2023), IPL matches besides being one of the two WPL 2024 hosts.

“We are thankful to the board for giving us the platform. We have proved ourselves during the World Cup and now we again have the opportunity to show the cricket fraternity how we are going to conduct our DPL in the newly constructed stadium,” Manchanda said.

The DPL had been on the cards for some time after DDCA had forwarded a request to the BCCI for holding a state T20 tournament.

As CricketNext had reported in May 2024, the DDCA’s Apex Council Meeting proposed hosting the league.

Delhi’s club cricket culture has been quite robust but having a proper league will help unearth more talent from the capital city.

DDCA president Rohan Jaitley has been pushing for multiple cricketing reforms in the state and there have been high-performance camps for both men’s and women’s players.

Apart from this, Delhi senior team has also been taking part in quality tournaments. They had recently topped the group stage in the All India Gold Cup tournament in Dehradun.

DDCA will be the latest addition to the list of state associations who have their own T20 leagues alongside Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Baroda, Kerala, Maharashtra, Gujarat, UP, Punjab, and Bengal.
