New Delhi: A man and his wife have been arrested from Jaipur for allegedly duping several people of crores of rupees by promising railway and government contracts.
accused, Abhishek Agarwal (38) and his wife Meenakshi (34), natives of Supaul district BiharAt least four were wanted in criminal cases and are on the run for the last three years.
Police said that in the last five years, the duo cheated around Rs 20 crore from big businessmen and property dealers.
He said the victims were impressed by their lavish lifestyle and made advance payments to both in the hope of getting a government contract.
After receiving the advance, both fled and switched off their mobile phones.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Vikram Singh said police teams analyzed several mobile numbers used by the couple.
He said, “The couple lived a very luxurious lifestyle and claimed that they could get any government contract through their contacts. When people reached out to them, they demanded crores of rupees. After that they ran away.”
During the investigation, the police traced the pair of husband and wife to Jaipur.
The police officer said that he was arrested and later arrested.
