Delhi Metro News: DMRC to run feeder e-buses on pilot basis from August 12; Vehicles will not have conductors. Delhi News – Times of India

New Delhi: For the first time DMRCFeeder electric buses will start plying on trial basis in the city from August 12 to boost connectivity Delhi Metro network, officials said on Tuesday.
In a statement, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said that it will introduce 100 feeder e-buses in a phased manner by the end of October, to provide the public with a better last mile commuting experience from 14 metro stations covering 10 routes.
DMRC said, “For the first time, feeder electric buses are being introduced in Delhi on a trial basis from this Thursday, under which 25 low-floor e-buses (24-seater buses) will run on two routes.” said in a statement.
Officials said only Delhi Metro commuters with a Delhi Metro smart card or a Metro DTC smart card would be allowed to avail the services of these e-buses.
Passengers can use smart cards for cashless travel payments as these buses will operate in a completely contactless manner and will not have a conductor. Officials said the entry and exit would be through turnstiles in the bus using Metro smart cards.
Metro smart cards are already being used in DTC buses.
Officials said that the entry of passengers in buses starting from metro stations would be allowed only from stations and the bus would stop at designated stops.
Entry of passengers will not be allowed at other stoppages on the route.
Buses going to metro stations will be allowed to enter at all stoppages, but passengers will be allowed to disembark at metro stations only.
This is to ensure that only genuine Metro commuters use this service. Passengers will be allowed to enter through the front gate and exit through the rear gate of the bus, the statement said.
One route (MC-721) will be from Shastri Park Metro Station to Gokulpuri Metro Station Via Khajuri Chowk, is spread over 10.3 km. Others (ML-05) will be spread over 7.7 km from Shastri Park Metro Station to Mother DairyDMRC said.
The fare structure will be Rs 10 for kms zero to four, Rs 15 for kms four to eight; Rs 20 for 8 to 12 km and Rs 25 for journey beyond 12 km.
These e-buses are specially designed and equipped with an intelligent transport system with CCTV and GPS facilities. They also have anti-skid, anti-brake locking systems and will not budge until all doors are closed. The doors will also not close if any obstruction is detected, officials said.
For handicapped and elderly passengers, these buses are fitted with wheelchair ramps and anchorages. DMRC said that in case of any emergency, panic buttons and stop request buttons are also fitted in these buses.
Dedicated depots have also been set up at Shastri Park for the maintenance and installation of these buses. Majlis Park, with an operational control center to monitor the vehicles, the officials said.
2.5 MW power connection is available for charging e-buses. Automatic wash plants have also been provided at both the e-bus depots for regular cleaning.
