Delhi Metro begins trial run on Dwarka Sector 21-IICC section on Airport Line

To enhance connectivity and connect the national capital through the metro network, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has started a trial run on the Dwarka Sector 21-IICC Metro section on the Airport Express Line, officials said on June 26. The section between Dwarka Sector 21 and the upcoming India International Convention Center (IICC) is expected to be operational by July, DMRC chief Vikas Kumar said on May 3.

Dwarka Sector 25 (IICC) is an underground station and an extension of the currently operational Airport Express Line connecting New Delhi Railway Station to Dwarka Sector 21 via Terminal 3 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport.

With the completion of this section, the New Delhi to Dwarka Sector-25 (IICC) Airport Express Line corridor will become 24.70 km long, said DMRC. The trial run has been started on the two kilometer long Dwarka Sector-21 to Dwarka Sector-25 (IICC) metro section on the Airport Express Line.

During the trial run, the signaling system is tested. Compulsory inspection will be carried out by various approval authorities including the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) after the completion of the trial run.

After these mandatory clearances, this section will be opened for passenger traffic. IICC is being developed into the largest exhibition and convention center of India. The facility, currently under construction, will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities such as convention centre, auditorium, hotel, office space and other retail space. The gates of Sector 25 metro station will open inside and outside IICC.
