Party officials said that AAP’s mayoral candidate Shelly Oberoi approached the Supreme Court on Thursday demanding time-bound election of mayor.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena’s office on Wednesday said that after two unsuccessful attempts in the past, a meeting to elect the mayor and deputy mayor of Delhi will be held on February 6.

According to officials, the date was among the three — February 3, 4 and 6 — proposed by the Delhi government.

“The LG has approved February 6, as proposed by the Deputy Chief Minister and the Chief Minister, for holding the postponed first meeting of the MCD, and for the election of the mayor, deputy mayor and six-member standing committee,” said VK Saxena. office said in a statement.

PTI quoted sources as saying that the MCD had proposed February 10 as the date for convening the House session for the election of the mayor.

This will be the third attempt to elect the mayor of Delhi as the House could not go through the process after two sessions, one on January 6 and the other on January 24. AAP and BJP councilors
