The lieutenant governor’s office has held talks with the government on a range of issues, including plans to send school teachers abroad for training

Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Saturday approved the city government’s proposal to send primary teachers of government schools to Finland for training.

The decision comes after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and former Education Minister Manish Sisodia accused the LG of obstructing the development of government schools in the national capital.

In a strongly worded statement from the Lieutenant Governor’s office, Saxena referred to the Arvind Kejriwal government’s continued reluctance and refusal to bring on record “the impact assessment of foreign training programs conducted in the past”.

Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has approved the proposal of Education Department for training program for primary in-charges in Finland, official statement said, “Taking the approach of equal benefit to all, the LG has decided to increase the number of primary in-charges 52 to 87 were to go to Finland for training, to ensure equal representation of primary in-charges from all 29 administrative regions of the Department of Education.”

“With this, 87 primary in-charges – 03 in-charges from each of the 29 administrative regions – will be selected for the training programme, while 52 primary in-charges were arbitrarily selected by the government,” it read.

The LG’s office had initially stalled the proposal to send teachers abroad and requested the government to do a cost-benefit analysis of past expenditure on training teachers.
