Delhi High Court seeks response from Facebook after Bhojpuri actress’ page was hacked

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday sought response of a petition filed by Bhojpuri film actress Neha Shree, seeking a direction to Facebook and others to restore access to her Facebook page and account on the social media platform. Explicit and illegal content.

A bench of Justice Rajnish Bhatnagar issued notices to the respondents in the case- Facebook Inc., Delhi government and Delhi Police and asked them to file their replies, listing the matter for further hearing on March 28.

Salah Karthikeya Mathur and Ed. KK Shukla, representing the actress, apprised the high court that a complaint has been filed on November 20 for hacking the Facebook page.

To remove the obscene, immoral and illegal content from the page and restore it, the lawyers sought the direction of the court, praying for a police inquiry into the matter.

The petitioner submitted that she is a leading Bhojpuri actress and has also appeared in various television shows, and was also awarded the National Gaurav Award.

She started her Facebook account and page in 2012 and has since grown to over 4 million followers on the social media platform.

However, on the night of 19 October the page was hacked and he received an email from Facebook saying that he had been removed as the admin of the Neha Shree Facebook page.

Soon after receiving the mail, a complaint was made with Facebook informing about the hacking. However, she only received “auto-generated” and “pre-typed” messages while nothing was done to restore her access.

Even 30 days after the hacking, despite complaints to various Facebook offices in the city, the problem has not been resolved.

Meanwhile, due to posting of obscene material on the hacked Facebook page, the image of the petitioner which he had built with hard work in the last 10 years has been adversely affected, the petitioner said.

He has been receiving mails from friends, relatives, fans and followers about immoral content being posted on his Facebook account.

Though the petitioner has tried to make it clear to him that the account has been attacked by hackers, it is difficult for him to reach his 40 lakh followers, among whom the reputation of the petitioner has been badly damaged, stated in his petition.
