The Delhi High Court on Monday lashed out at the microblogging platform Twitter. The court asked that when you can block the account of former US President Donald Trump, then why not ban the account posting objectionable content on Hindu gods and goddesses. The court said that your attitude shows how serious Twitter is towards such sensitive issues.

Court asked Twitter – what action was taken in the matter
A bench of Acting Chief Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Navin Chawla was hearing a petition filed against the objectionable remarks made on Maa Kali. During this, the court asked Twitter what action you have taken against the account making this comment.

High Court seeks reply from Twitter
Senior advocate Siddharth Luthra, appearing for Twitter, said that Twitter has removed the objectionable content and has also registered an FIR in the matter. The court asked why Twitter does not block such accounts. The bench directed Twitter to file a reply explaining its policy on permanent suspension of a user’s account.

The court asked this question to the central government
The court has also directed the central government to respond in this regard. The bench asked the government whether action was required to be taken on such accounts under the Information Technology Act. This post has been done from the Twitter account named Ethist Republic.

The petition was filed last year
Aditya Singh Deswal had filed a petition in the Delhi High Court last year. During the hearing held in October 2021, the High Court had directed Twitter to remove the objectionable content. The court said that such posts can hurt the religious sentiments of the people.
