Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain was on Tuesday sent to ED custody till June 9 in the money laundering case. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had arrested Jain on Monday in connection with the case. The AAP leader’s arrest drew a sharp reaction from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which called it a political move ahead of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections.

After a few hours of interrogation, he was taken into custody on Monday under criminal sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and was produced before a designated court on Tuesday.

Jain’s arrest comes days after a minister in the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Punjab government was sacked on corruption charges and later arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau.

Giving the example of Punjab, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said, “We do not tolerate any corruption and never will. In Punjab we took action against a corrupt minister. We don’t wait for agencies. I have studied the case of Satyendra Jain, there is no truth in it. All this is happening for political reasons.”

Satyendar Jain has been arrested by the federal agency in connection with the alleged hawala deal. Reacting sharply to the arrest, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had said that Jain has been arrested in an eight-year-old “fake” case as he is the AAP in-charge of Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections and the BJP fears defeat.
