Delhi Government To Launch ‘Patake Nahi, Diya Jalao’ Campaign From Oct 27

New Delhi: To check pollution in the national capital, Delhi Environment Minister, Gopal Rai announced the launch of an anti-cracker campaign from October 27. The campaign, ‘Pataake nahi diya jalao’ (Light crackers, not crackers) will ensure that the ban on firecrackers is implemented properly on the ground.

In a tweet by ANI, the agency informed that the Environment Minister has constituted teams that will ensure the implementation of the firecracker ban on the ground in 15 districts of the capital.

The 15 central teams from all the 15 districts will have around 157 members. Apart from this, teams will be formed under the guidance of 33 SDMs, who will be responsible for ensuring firecracker ban.

Rai also asked to link diyas with Diwali instead of crackers. He suggested that brands which would publish advertisements during Diwali should depict diyas instead of crackers in their advertisements.

The Delhi government is taking several steps to check the rising level of pollution during Diwali in Delhi. Recently, the government had launched a campaign ‘Red Light On, Gaadi Off’ from October 21 to November 15.

The Delhi government has started this campaign at around 100 traffic lights in the capital where the waiting period is more than two minutes. Under this initiative, volunteers will ask motorists to turn off the engine of their vehicle while waiting for the red traffic signal to turn green.

Every year around the month of October and November, stubble burning creates a thick layer of haze that engulfs the national capital and other regions of North India. The problem is compounded by the smoke emanating from firecrackers during Diwali.
