A court here has directed the Delhi Police to ensure that Shiromani Akali Dal leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa does not run away from justice as he faces charges of alleged misappropriation of funds during his tenure as general secretary of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee. facing investigation. (DSGMC). Metropolitan Magistrate Pankaj Sharma passed the order on Friday while hearing a plea by a person named Bhupinder Singh, who had filed a corruption complaint.

The applicant informed the court that there is apprehension that Sirsa may flee the country. The court observed that the apprehension expressed by the complainant and in the interest of proper investigation, the investigating officer has to ensure that the accused person does not run away from the path of justice.

The court has also sought a progress report of the case from Delhi Police by July 26, when it will hear the matter next. During the hearing held through video conferencing, the petitioner’s counsel Sanjay Abbott told the court that Sirsa has already sold its properties and is in the process of escaping as soon as flights resume.

The lawyer further submitted that the investigating agency has not taken proper steps to prevent him from escaping. Meanwhile, the court also took note of the submission of Delhi Police that Lookout Circulars (LoCs) have not been opened against the accused persons as they are joining the interrogation.

A Delhi court had earlier directed the Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police to register an FIR on the complaint of Bhupinder Singh. Singh had alleged that Sirsa, who was the general secretary of DSGMC at the time of the incident in 2013, caused wrongful loss of public money.

Following the court’s direction, the EOW of Delhi Police had registered an FIR against Sirsa.
