Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday announced a ‘One Time Water Bill Settlement Scheme’, which aims to help people settle their pending water bills at once.

The chief minister has passed directions to Delhi Urban Development Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj about the implementation of the scheme. The proposal will reportedly be tabled before the Delhi cabinet soon.

“Water bills are nowadays one of the biggest problems in Delhi, such that people are raising this issue even in public gatherings of the CM. This problem might be because of varied reasons. To solve this issue and to bring revenue to the Delhi Jal Board we are bringing this one-time settlement scheme. We assume it’ll unlock Rs 1400 crores of revenue in the Delhi Jal Board,” Delhi Water Minister Atishi said while addressing a presser.

Delhi Urban Development Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said the scheme should be presented before the Cabinet for approval soon. The Cabinet is likely to present the scheme within 10 days.

“After Cabinet approval, consumers will get recast bills from the next billing cycle and they will get four months to pay their dues,” Atishi added.

The Delhi government identified around 11 lakh bills for one-time settlement in June 2023, however, the finance department had raised objections.
