Delhi: Annoyed by marriage but never thought murder, man’s father shot dead in Dwarka Delhi News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: I was upset with this marriage but never thought of killing them, says 55-year-old Om Light, the father of Vinay Dahiya Who was allegedly shot dead by six to seven people on Thursday.
Police said Vinay (23) sustained four bullet injuries on his stomach and chest, while his wife Kiran (19) suffered a neck injury.

The victims were taken to Venkateswara Hospital where Vinay was declared brought dead. Kiran, who tried to escape from the terrace, is undergoing treatment at the hospital.
On Thursday, the police suspected that it could be a case of honor killing. He said the couple had fled last year against the wishes of their families.
Prakash works as a postman in Gopalpur village of Sonipat district HaryanaHe said that he got information about the incident at 10.30 pm.
“Ravi, who runs a shop in the area from where Vinay used to shop for groceries, called to inform me about the incident. Vinay and Kiran went to see a doctor on Thursday as the latter had a pregnancy connection. There were some complications.
Prakash, who was waiting outside Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital to collect his son’s body, said, “Ravi told me that Vinay and Kiran were sitting with him. Later they went back home at 8.30 pm.”
“We heard Kiran saying that her cousin Vicky shot her first and then Vinay. According to Kiran her brother Safe were present on the spot along with others and were involved in the firing. They committed the crime and later fled from the spot.”
Vinay used to work as a cab driver at the airport.
“The couple got married on August 13 last year in Chandigarh and later moved to the national capital. I was not happy with their marriage. They both belong to the same village and same caste.
“About 20 days after their marriage, there was a call from the panchayat, where the sarpanch asked us to let it be and that no one would communicate or contact with the couple as they married against the wishes of their families and the village. I supported the decision of the panchayat and said that I will stand by it,” he said.
In August last year, the couple approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking police protection. The court had directed the Sonepat police to protect the couple. Delhi Police said.
“After their marriage I had no contact with them and neither did I want to. I was angry and did not want them to enter my house or village. I was supporting the decision of the panchayat.
“After their marriage, Kharkhoda police contacted me and asked if I am happy or angry after this marriage. I told them that I am angry with Vinay and Kiran’s decision and I will not allow them to enter my house. They were free by my side. And they had the freedom to do whatever they wanted to,” Prakash said.
Prakash lives in his village with his wife and another son.
“I was angry with his decision but never wanted to kill him because it is not right. Kiran’s family has done this and now they will face the punishment. Vinay and Kiran knew each other since school days, but We didn’t know about our relationship.”
Vinay’s uncle Rajendra Kumar said that they will again come to Delhi on Saturday for the post-mortem. “The doctors said that the postmortem could not be done today. We will be here again tomorrow,” Kumar said.
