Delhi added second Omicron case on Saturday, India’s tally rises to 33. Done

Delhi added one new case of Omicron on Saturday taking the total cases of Omicron in the national capital to two. The latest case is of a 35-year-old Indian male who had returned from Zimbabwe. Now the capital’s LNJP hospital has 31 patients “at risk”, including 2 confirmed cases of Omicron. Apart from this, according to sources, 8 patients have been discharged.

No new cases of Omicron were found in Rajasthan and Mumbai. Whereas, in Rajasthan, all the nine cases, who were found to be omicron positive, have been discharged after testing negative. Besides this, four other suspected cases were also discharged after testing negative. So, as per sources, a total of 13 were discharged.

“Genome sequencing of the other 8 suspected cases is pending,” a source told BusinessLine.

There were a total of 17 cases of Omicron in Mumbai on Saturday, out of which 7 have been discharged after being found negative through RT PCR test.

Besides this, Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan on Saturday wrote a letter to the States/UTs informing them of the high positivity in the last two weeks. The government directed them to monitor the COVID situation in eight districts of Mizoram, Kerala and Sikkim, which have been reporting positivity rates of more than 10 per cent in the last two weeks. Bhushan asked them to take targeted district-level action to reduce the clusters of fresh cases. Apart from these 19 districts in Kerala, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Puducherry, Manipur, West Bengal, Nagaland recorded positivity rates between 5 and 10 per cent, Bhushan underlined in the letter.

According to the Health Ministry data, India recorded 7,992 Covid cases with 393 deaths in the last 24 hours till 8:00 am on Saturday. Overall, India has recorded 3.46 crore cases so far, taking the total death toll to 4.75 lakh.

It is to be noted that the weekly positivity rate was 0.71 per cent, which was less than 1 per cent for the last 27 days and the daily positivity rate was 0.64 per cent. The daily positivity rate remained below 2 per cent for the last 68 days and below 3 per cent for 103 consecutive days.

Meanwhile, India conducted 12.50 lakh COVID tests during the last day, which is 65.46 crore tests conducted so far.

In addition, India has given 84.34 lakh vaccine doses till 7:00 pm on Saturday, taking a total of 132.87 crore vaccinations so far. Also, the government on Friday informed that more than States/UTs still had 18.28 crore vaccine doses available.
