Delhi Acid Attack: DCW issues notice to Amazon, Flipkart for selling ‘Acid’ online – Details Inside

new Delhi: Amazon and Walmart’s Flipkart have been issued notices by an Indian government body, asking them why dangerous acid is available on their sites after a schoolgirl was the victim of an acid attack. The Delhi Commission for Women, a local body that looks into women’s issues, said in the notice that it had learned that the acid attack accused had bought material from Walmart’s Flipkart. Hours after the notice was issued, Flipkart said that it has blacklisted the seller of the used product, and is providing all assistance to the authorities in their investigation.

An Amazon spokeswoman did not respond to a Reuters request for comment. Reuters could not immediately confirm if the acid was available on its websites.

In similarly worded notices issued to both Amazon and Flipkart on Thursday, the commission asked both the companies to explain the reason for availability of acid and name of sellers selling such products on their e-commerce websites.

“The easy availability of acid on online platforms is a matter of grave concern and needs to be urgently investigated,” the commission said in the notice.

Local media reported on Thursday that a 17-year-old schoolgirl had been hospitalized after suffering serious burns following an acid attack. Three people have been arrested by the police in the capital of India.
