New Delhi: The Delhi Police on Sunday detained senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders, including Raghav Chadha, Sanjay Singh and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, who came to the national capital against probe agency’s summons to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Were protesting near the office.

The Aam Aadmi Party took to the streets in Delhi on Sunday to protest against the CBI summoning Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for questioning in the excise policy matter.

Top party leaders including Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Delhi ministers Saurabh Bhardwaj, Atishi and Kailash Gehlot and Rajya Sabha MPs Sandeep Pathak, Raghav Chadha and Sanjay Singh gathered near the federal agency’s headquarters and raised slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Since Kejriwal was being interrogated.

Addressing a press conference, AAP Delhi convenor Gopal Rai claimed that around 1,500 people have been detained by the police and the chief minister in the national capital to protest against the CBI summons, according to new agency PTI. Many MLAs and councilors have been “arrested”.

He said, “The central government is conspiring to arrest Kejriwal. Many people took to the streets and protested against the CBI across the city. Heavy security was deployed and many people who came in support of Arvind Kejriwal were detained.” Went.”

PTI quoted Rai as saying, “Around 1,500 people have been detained or arrested by police across Delhi for protesting. Thirty-two MLAs and 70 councilors from Delhi have been arrested in the city and 20 from Punjab AAP.” The MLAs have been arrested.”

“Leaders including Sanjeev Jha, Kuldeep Kumar, Praveen Kumar, Jarnail Singh, Rituraj Jha, Naresh Yadav, Gulab Singh Yadav, Somnath Bharti, Girish Soni, Amanatullah Khan and Shiv Charan Goel were arrested in Delhi,” he added.

Meanwhile, the CBI is interrogating AAP’s national convenor Arvind Kejriwal in the matter of excise policy. Kejriwal’s former deputy in the Delhi government, Manish Sisodia, was arrested last month in this case.

It has been alleged that the Delhi government’s excise policy for 2021-22 for granting licenses to liquor traders favored some dealers who allegedly paid bribes for it, a charge strongly denied by the AAP. The policy was later repealed.

Security at the CBI headquarters was beefed up by the Delhi Police by erecting four rings of barricades to prevent protests by Aam Aadmi Party leaders and supporters.

As per PTI reports, over 1,000 security personnel, including paramilitary forces, have been deployed outside the CBI headquarters and section 144 of CrPC has also been imposed in the area to ensure that there is no gathering of more than four people.

Security has also been tightened outside the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) office at Rouse Avenue. A senior police officer said that barricades have been put up on the roads at both these places – the AAP office and the CBI headquarters – to ensure that party workers and supporters do not face any trouble.

CBI officials said they asked Kejriwal to appear on Sunday as the offices remain closed in the area. The same strategy was adopted when Sisodia was called to the agency’s headquarters, where he was questioned for eight hours before being taken into custody.
