A seven-month-old baby in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, has been found in a rare condition: human foetus growing inside their abdomen. The discovery was made after the baby’s stomach began swelling unexpectedly, making the family worried.

Doctors at Swami Himalayan Medical College, Dehradun, identified the condition as foetus-in-fetu, a rare developmental anomaly occurring in one in several lakh births. Pediatric surgeon Dr. Santosh Singh explained that initial examinations suspected a lump, but X-rays revealed the presence of a developing fetus within the baby’s abdomen.

“The parents of the seven-month-old baby brought him here when his stomach suddenly started swelling. In the initial examination, we thought that there would be some abnormal lump in the baby’s stomach.”

“But when an X-ray was done, it was found that there was a fetus in the baby’s stomach. The information was given to his family and then preparations for the operation began. Following the diagnosis, the fetus was successfully removed through the operation. The baby is now recovering well and is in good health,” he added.
