Defense Ministry approves proposal to procure indigenous arms, ammunition worth Rs 76,390 crore for Army

The NGC will be built on the basis of the new in-house design of the Indian Navy, using the latest technology of shipbuilding, the ministry said in a statement.

Taking a significant step, the Defense Ministry on Monday approved procurement of military equipment and platforms worth Rs 76,390 crore from domestic industries.

The ministry said the procurement proposals were approved by the Defense Acquisition Council (DAC) headed by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh.

For the Indian Navy, DAC accorded approval for procurement of Next Generation Corvettes (NGCs) at an estimated cost of around Rs 36,000 crore.

These NGCs will be versatile platforms for various roles such as surveillance missions, escort operations, deterrence, Surface Action Group (SAG) operations, search and attack and coastal defence.

The NGC will be built on the basis of the new in-house design of the Indian Navy, using the latest technology of shipbuilding, the ministry said in a statement.

The DAC also approved a proposal by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) to manufacture Dornier aircraft and Su-30 MKI aero-engines with a focus on enhancing indigenization.

For the Indian Army, DAC has launched a new system for procurement of Rough Terrain Fork Lift Truck (RTFLT), Bridge Laying Tank (BLT), Wheeled Armored Combat Vehicle (WH AFV) with Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATGM) and weapons. Approved. Detection of Radar (WLR) through domestic sources with emphasis on indigenous design and development.

“In pursuance of the government’s vision for digital transformation in defence, the ‘Digital Coast Guard’ project under the ‘Buy’ (Indian) category has been approved by the DAC,” the ministry said.

Under this project, a pan-India secure network will be established for digitization of various surface and aviation operations, logistics, finance and human resource processes in the Coast Guard.
