Former India batsman Sanjay Manjrekar has given a suggestion to Chennai Super Kings to stop Shubman Gill in the final of IPL 2023. Shubman is in the form of his life in the current IPL season and has scored 851 runs so far this season, including three hundreds. The talented young opener also scored a brilliant half-century against CSK in the opening match of the season, however, he failed to help his team break the Chepauk fortress in Qualifier 1.
Gill scored 42 in Qualifier 2 and it was Deepak Chahar who got the better of him. It will be a tough task for the swing specialists to get the better of Gill with the new ball in the final to give CSK a big advantage.
Manjrekar suggested that CSK should use Manjrekar and a spinner from the other end to put Gill on the backfoot.
“To start with Deepak Chahar. Swing bowler, to get the ball back in, hopefully, Gill is on the backfoot and not on the frontfoot, so it’s an opportunity. Get spin early because Tushar Deshpande I think Gill will handle it quite easily,” Manjrekar said.
While the former batsman suggested that Mahesh Thikshana could be a problem for Gill in the powerplay overs.
“Someone like Tikshana bowls it straight and hopes that there is a slight lapse in concentration and the pad comes in line with the ball and if there is some twist, which is unlikely, Jadeja will be able to play two right-handed batsmen at the top. are with. But I am sure will go with MS Chahar and then one of the two spinners.”
Tom Moody also agreed with Manjrekar’s suggestion and said that Chahar and Tixhana will be key for CSK in the powerplay.
“I think it is Chahar with the new ball, he needs to get some early wickets to expose that middle order as soon as possible and obviously Gill is the big prize. If he can hit early and another option that MS Dhoni can get going early in that powerplay phase is Teekshana, I think he can be an option too, so I think that’s important for CSK ,” Moody said.
