Deccan Queen train will run on new LHB coaches from June 22

One of the oldest running trains in the country, Deccan Queen will run in a completely new avatar on the tracks between Mumbai and Pune. Deccan Queen, which recently completed 92 years of service, gets new Link Hoffman Busch (LHB) coaches and a new dining car.

Interestingly, the Deccan Queen or Queen of the Deccan was named after a city in Pune and was the first train to have a dining car. Now the train will make its maiden journey from Mumbai to Pune with new and new coaches and will reach its destination at around 8:30 am on Wednesday. In February it was decided that the Deccan Queen would be upgraded and given a new design approved by the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad. The upgrade was approved by the Ministry of Railways.

According to a Central Railway official, the LHB coaches fitted in Deccan Queen will provide more safety and stability to the train. The coaches will also ensure greater control and higher speed. “The Deccan Queen is one of the oldest trains in the country and this change will surely bring a renewed enthusiasm and people will love to travel even more,” said the official, as reported by The Times of India.

Central Railway recently shared the last look of Deccan Queen running with conventional coaches. The caption read, ‘From today the Maharani of Pune will run with the LHB coach.

Apart from replacing the coaches of the Integral Coach Factory, the Railways has also replaced the Dining Coach in the train. The new dining car will have 10 dining tables and each table will have a seating capacity of four. Each table will be given a panoramic window. The kitchen will serve freshly cooked food and hot drinks during the visit.

The new Deccan Queen will have a total of 15 coaches. This will include four AC chair coaches, eight second class chair coaches, one AC dining coach, one Vistadome coach, one generator coach and one guard cum brake van.
