In his second term at DDCA, Manchanda takes up additional role of BJP’s Sports Convener
Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) joint secretary Rajan Manchanda has been appointed as BJP’s Sports Convener for Delhi Pradesh and wants to use his administrative experience to promote sports in the state.
Manchanda is in his second term as the joint secretary of the state association and has also served as Secretary of the iconic Roshanara Club in the past.
“My role is to promote all the sports at Delhi level. I have been associated with the sports and on basis of that, the party has given me the responsibility. The kind of experience that I have gained while working for DDCA like executing the plans for IPL during COVID-19 period, working during the World Cup 2023 and also as Secretary of Roshnara club will be very helpful going forward,” says Manchanda.
It is going to be a different challenge for Manchanda who had dealt with professional cricketers in the past and the new role would require a lot of work in the rural areas too.
“The responsibilities now also involve working closely in the rural areas to make kids get more involved in sports. My aim is whenever a kid goes to a school, sports should be a must for him. As I said, my job is to promote all the sports so that we can get more talent and also, it will help change the lifestyle of an individual,” adds Manchanda.
DDCA awaits BCCI nod for Delhi Premier League
DDCA has forwarded a request to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for holding a state T20 tournament for both men and women. The association is now waiting for BCCI’s approval to execute the plans. Manchanda is confident of executing the league within next 2-3 months if the necessary approval comes their way.
“See, the moment we get the permission from BCCI, we will try to execute the plans in 2-3 months, keeping in mind the norms that the board has set for IPL. We are just waiting for the permission. We will follow the BCCI approved system as far as the auction is concerned,” says Manchanda.
A number of states like Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Baroda, Kerala, Maharashtra, Gujarat, UP and Punjab have their own leagues, and Bengal became the latest to launch their own league.
