DCW chief Swati Maliwal dragged by car for 10-15 meters, accused arrested

New Delhi: Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) Chairperson Swati Maliwal on Thursday (January 19, 2023) said that she was dragged by a car while she was inspecting the situation of women’s safety in the national capital. On his official Twitter account, he said that the car driver “molested” with him in a drunken state and when he tried to catch him, he locked his hand in the car window and dragged him.

“Late last night I was inspecting the women safety situation in Delhi. A car driver in an inebriated state molested me and when I tried to catch him, he locked my hand in his car window and Dragged me. God saved my life.” Maliwal said in a tweet in Hindi.

“Imagine the situation if the chairperson of the Women’s Commission is not safe in Delhi,” she said.

News agency ANI quoted police as saying that Maliwal was dragged around 10-15 meters in front of AIIMS Delhi Gate No. 2 at around 3.11 am.

The accused, ANI said, was in an inebriated condition and has been arrested.

ANI quoted a Delhi Police official as saying, “FIR has been registered. Medical examination of the accused and the victim has been done. The incident took place when Swati Maliwal along with her team was standing on the footpath.”
