Day After Some Lawyers Targeted Calcutta High Court Judge, Row Over Letter

A day later, some lawyers target Calcutta High Court judge, row over letter

The matter came up before the Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court today.

Kolkata:

A day after a group of lawyers blocked Justice Rajasekhar Mantha’s entry into the court, several members of the state bar association have written to the Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court, supporting the protesters, saying “it is A better injustice would be to “keep quiet”. They have requested the High Court to remove Justice Rajasekhar Mantha from hearing certain cases. However, the Bar Association has denied any meeting or proposal, and senior lawyers of the Calcutta High Court Condemned the action of the lawyers who blocked the entrance of the courtroom.

Justice Mantha has been in limelight for a long time An order that provides full security to the Leader of the Opposition in the State Legislative AssemblyBJP’s Shubhendu Adhikari.

The letter states that the actions of Justice Rajasekhar Mantha “must be considered”, which it says has fallen short of its normal standards in the recent past. These lawyers claim that the judge has violated the principle of ‘audi ultim’, which is to be heard by all.

Lawyers opposing Justice Mantha’s order protested outside his court yesterday also. They had carried placards stating their problems with them.

Posters outside Justice Mantha’s house and the Calcutta High Court called him a “disgrace to the judiciary” for his order on Mr Adhikari. Another took issue with the judge’s move to withdraw the security given to senior TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee’s sister-in-law.

The matter came up before the Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court today after CPI(M) leader and senior advocate Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya condemned the move. Deputy Solicitor General Billavadal Bhattacharya demanded central security in the court premises.

Advocate Bikas Ranjan Bhattacharya said there have been “attempts to defame the judge” and posters have been put up around his house. He appealed to the bench to take strict cognizance and insisted for criminal contempt of court.

On a letter from some lawyers claiming that the bar association has decided to abstain from Justice Mantha’s court, advocate Saptanshu Basu asked the court to ignore it as “there has been no meeting of the bar and no resolution”. Not there”. “It should have no cognizance,” he argued.

The court adjourned the matter, which will be taken up again later.

The Chief Justice had summoned the Advocate General of the Calcutta High Court and the President of the Bar Association on Monday regarding the matter. Reprimanding the AG, the Chief Justice said that there would be trouble if the matter reaches the Supreme Court. “How can a judge’s bench be boycotted?” the Chief Justice asked.

“For the last one year, it has been felt by those lawyers that they are not getting justice, are not being heard properly, are not being treated properly, and a minimal exchange of respect was absent. It created some sort of smokescreen for common lawyers. From the day they become lawyers, they have self-respect. So, it was first raised before the Bar Association and the Bar Association raised it before the Chief Justice,” Advocate Achintya Banerjee, a signatory to the letter submitted to the Chief Justice against Justice Mantha said.

Lawyer and BJP member Advocate Tarunjyoti Tiwari tweeted a video of the protest, drawing the attention of Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju towards the issue.

Opposition parties also condemned the action of the lawyers outside the court saying that there is a proper forum to file such complaints.

“Unfortunately, the magnanimity of this institution has been ridiculed and curtailed. If you are aggrieved by a particular order of a particular judge, there is a higher forum to go up and appeal. We write in our applications that the judge erred in coming to a conclusion or the judge failed to appreciate, we write all that. There is a forum to redress grievances. Unfortunately, obstruction of justice is unheard of, and it has never been in the culture of this great institution There was no,” advocate Ritju Ghoshal, lawyer and Congress leader, said.
