Day 4 of Tupul Landslide Rescue: Landslide death toll reaches 37; Search continues for 25, rain became a hindrance

Three more bodies were found on Sunday from the site of a landslide after a landslide at the Tupul railway construction site in Manipur’s Noni district. After this, the death toll increased to 37, while searches are on for 25 people. However, due to heavy rains and landslides in Tupul area since Saturday night, the search operation is facing difficulties. Among the bodies retrieved from under the rubble are 24 Indian Army personnel, 11 Gorkha Battalion Territorial Army personnel and 13 civilians.

the danger is still not over
After rain on Wednesday night, the hill adjoining Tupul railway station had broken and fell on the under-construction station yard. Debris from the landslide blocked the course of the Ijei River, creating a pond. The Ijai River flows through Tamenglong and Noni districts. The district administration has issued an advisory to the nearby villagers to take precautions and vacate the place at the earliest. At present, the work of clearing the debris is going on so that the water can flow out.

7 people of Assam have died in the landslide. 5 is undergoing treatment. 13 are still missing. This information was shared by Assam Minister Piyush Hazarika. They are presently present at the site of incident in Noni.

Due to the landslide, the water of the Ijei River is stagnant, posing a risk of flooding in the low-lying areas.

Search will continue in the rubble
According to an army spokesman, efforts will continue to trace the six missing Territorial Army soldiers and 19 civilians until the last person is found. The Army, Assam Rifles, Territorial Army, SDRF and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are involved in this operation. So far 13 jawans and 5 civilians have been rescued safely.

Final farewell with military honors

The bodies of seven Territorial Army personnel were sent to their hometowns Kolkata and Bagdogra in West Bengal and Agartala in Tripura on Sunday, the spokesman said. The mortal remains of the jawans were sent to their homes by two Indian Air Force aircraft and one Indian Army helicopter. Earlier, the soldiers were given a final farewell with full military honors in Imphal. Rail line is being laid from Jiribam to Imphal. For the safety of this, a camp of soldiers was set up here.
