US-based Match Group, owner of a global portfolio of popular online dating apps such as Tinder, Hinge, Match, Plenty of Fish and Meetic, has announced the launch of a new campaign that will introduce in-app messages and tips on how to avoid online fraud. Email notifications to suggest users about.

According to TechCrunch, Tinder and a French dating app, Meetic, will send users in-app messages about tips and common behaviours.

Tips include verifying profile pictures of potential matches, video chatting with them before meeting in person, and learning to spot the red flags of scammers.

In addition, other dating apps such as Match, Hinge, Plenty of Fish and Our Time will send email and message notifications to users with scam-related tips, according to the report.

The global public awareness campaign will be launched in more than 15 countries including the US, India, Canada, the UK, Australia, Japan, Germany, France, Spain and Italy.

“Scammers will often play the long game,” said Buddy Loomis, senior director of law enforcement operations and investigations at Match Group.

“They really want to capture the trust and confidence of the victim, and they will spend a lot of time with them talking back and forth… This is how scammers build a rapport with that person and make them feel safe. (again ) They will ask for money for the child’s medical bills, visa or plane ticket.”

The report states that Match Group encourages users to report incidents on the platforms they are using, as well as contact local law enforcement.
