Back in 2014, Darshan Kumar made his debut Bollywood With Priyanka Chopra Mary Kom led The actor recently appeared in the highly acclaimed sports drama, Toofan. His performances have not only impressed audiences, but critics and mainstays of Indian cinema as well. Interestingly, Mary Kom was not the actor’s first foray in front of the camera. In fact, his first film was much earlier in the year 2003. He played his first role in the lead of Tere Naam Salman Khan.
While talking to The Indian Express, Darshan revisited the time he went to audition for the role. When asked how his first acting project came to him, he said, he was doing theater in Delhi when he came to know about the audition that many of his friends were leaving. Being only 13 or 14 years old, he was hesitant to audition but was pulled over by his friends. He got selected, which was a surprise to him. Darshan said, “It was for Satish Kaushik’s Tere Naam where I had to play a college boy named Kanak Sharma, one of the three friends of Salman Khan’s character.”
Talking about how working with Salman Khan alone was no less than a dream, he said, “Ever since I grew up watching Salman’s films, it all seemed like a dream to me, like a kid did. Entered a fantasy film.”
He felt that Salman would not be able to recognize him after the film as he was very young then. Darshan recalled the time he was in Spain and was nominated at IIFA for NH10. He said, ‘I was wearing a suit and was sitting behind Salman. He looked at me and said, “Yeah well ooh…” Later, he held a party in his room, where I finally met him properly. We talked about my struggle and he appreciated my hard work.
Speaking about his Hurricane journey, Darshan told Pinkvilla, “We were coached by Darrell Foster (a Hollywood celebrity trainer, who has coached Will Smith). I had many sleepless nights due to pain on my face and black and blue marks on my body. Playing the role of Dharmesh Patil was quite challenging mentally and physically. I am on top of the world because I am getting a lot of appreciation for my performance, especially the fight sequence in the film which inspires me a lot. “
Toofan stars Farhan Akhtar in the lead role. Darshan donned gray shades with such gusto in the boxing drama and has proved his versatility yet again. Family Man and Ashram were his two latest successful web shows, which saw the talented star in a completely different light.
