Dangal stars Sanya Malhotra and Fatima Sana Shaikh reacted to Vinesh Phogat entering the semi-finals at the Paris Olympics 2024. The actresses, who played Vinesh’s cousins wrestlers Geeta and Babita on the big screen in the film, took to their Instagram Stories and shared their joy over seeing Vinesh inching closer to securing a medal for India. Vinesh had beaten Yui Susaki of Japan to advance into the semis.
Taking to her Instagram Stories, Sanya shared a video featuring Vinesh’s winning moment. She shared the reel along with the firecrackers emoji. Meanwhile, Fatima shared a post which featured the commentator’s words about her difficult year. “Look at the resilience, she has had a tough year with protests in her country, she was seen crying on streets but none of that came in her way today, she fought like a warrior,” the commentator had said as Vinesh won.

Vinesh Phogat sunk the reigning world champion Japan’s Yui Susaki in the first round of the Women’s 50kg Freestyle event at the Paris Olympics. Vinesh’s win also marks a historic first loss in international circuits for the top-seeded Japanese Susaki, who did not concede a single point enroute to her hold during the Tokyo Games in 2020.
After trailing 0-2 till the last 30 seconds of the match, Vinesh waited for her chances before going for Susaki’s legs and took her down in the last few seconds of the game. She pinned her to clinch 3 points in the last second of the match and stole a win.
Vinesh Phogat will now take on Cuba’s Yusneylis Guzman Lopez in the 5th fixture on Mat B for the semi-final match. The match is set to begin on 9:45 PM IST.
